Unit Description
The central focus for this unit is to explore color mixing with tempera paint using primary colors, white and black. Students will demonstrate an imaginative response to developing an underwater seascape by applying their color mixing findings using primary colors to create a range of secondary colors, tint and shade. Students will learn how to create a background and foreground. Students will learn about arrangement in composition. Students will learn how to describe the shapes and colors of sea creatures and plant life by looking at David Miller's vivid seascapes. Students will learn how to create contrast by painting different colors next to each other. Students will learn how to describe how they created a range of different colors using primary colors by recalling their material exploration. Students will be given opportunities for student choice by exploring the shapes and colors of different types of sea creatures in the sea and will be able to create their background and foreground using any colors, encouraging the use of contrast and multiple colors.
