Symmetrical Butterflies
Through the study of butterflies, Kindergarteners learned about symmetry, using a template—similar to using a pattern in fashion design, practiced their scissor skills, and beautified every corner of the sdhool.
It all began when students expressed their interest in butterflies. That is what they wanted to create. I was inspired. What can we learn about butterflies?
Artists began with an outline of a butterfly to learn about reflecting shapes on both sides.
Then they created a butterfly brainstorm page.
Then they learned about cutting butterflies out by folding their paper “hamburger style” and putting a hand drawn (by me) half butterfly on the fold. They had a variety of butterfly wings to choose from which I developed from real butterflies!
Then they learned how to create their own butterfly wing pattern using the #3 and adding shapes!
